A production I worked on as Assistant Camera / Director and directed by Paul Cockcroft has launched as the Kickstarter video for fresh new fashion brand Joey Wears. You can watch the video below and visit their page to pledge money to their unique and innovative underwear, with plenty of incentives to do-so such as receiving the underwear itself. They're performing spectacularly well with 27 days remaining and their goal of £15,000 already surpassed, guaranteeing them the money raised.
I hope the company does well, they were a great bunch. Toronto, Canada Coming off its recent win of the Experimental Award from the 12 Months Film Festival in Cluj-Nupoca and its premiere just prior in Berlin at the LemoArt Gallery, Lost In The Nameless City has been included out of competition by Toronto event the Experimental Film & Music Video Festival: experimentalfilmfestival.com - Lost In The Nameless City.
There are many more announcements for Lost In The Nameless City that've been stacking up that I'm very keen to share but I've been distracted by some recent work making me less efficient and will be looking to get a lot of things up-to-date imminently. I'll also be sharing details of a freshly completed dance film - The Råbjerg Mile Migrates - that was shot in Northern Denmark last year on the dune swept Råbjerg Mile of the title when I was over their on a Danish Arts Foundation commission. Keep in touch and follow the film's continual progress and my work in general on my social media: Instagram / Facebook / Twitter. Thanks for reading! My short experimental documentary Lost In The Nameless City has won the Experimental Award at the 12 Months Film Festival!
It has been a lengthy road since shooting and photographing the film back in 2014, which then culminated in its debut screening at the event Filthy Lucre that had commissioned me to make a film in which I interpreted "urban space" in London. At that point the film was shown with musical accompaniment from Steve Reich played live by jazz guitarist Rob Luft. Over the past couple of years the film was frustratingly stuck in limbo and I needed to jump over a few hurdles before I was in a position to submit the film to festivals / galleries freely, release it online and to screen it at my discretion. The film now boasts an original continuous minimalist score created by composer David C. Hëvvitt to complement the 32mm photography and monochrome video of the piece. I'm delighted at this result and look forward to the film's potential. It is still screening in competition in Berlin at the LemoArt Gallery. Also, my short documentary that was also nominated - A Film By Abigail - alumni of the London Short Film Festival, came 2nd for the Documentary Award. The 12 Months Film Festival (Cluj-Napoca, Romania) notified me yesterday that both of my films in their official selection of April 2017 that's just passed have been nominated for their respective award categories: Lost In The Nameless City for Experimental and A Film By Abigail for Documentary. Lost In The Nameless City is currently in competition at the LemoArt Gallery in Berlin for their Video Art award screening from April into May. A Film By Abigail was in the 2014 official selection of the London Short Film Festival at the ICA and has screened at festivals worldwide including at San Diego Comic-Con, New Orleans International Children's Film Festival, Tirana International Film Festival (Albania) and at the LACMA for the Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival. The winning films should be announced on Thursday - follow me on social media via Instagram / Facebook / Twitter to stay up to date with my work and in touch. Time to share some happy news about my personal work...
Whilst still screening in competition throughout April at the LemoArt Gallery (Berlin) my short experimental documentary Lost In The Nameless City which interprets and observes urban space, the architecture and nature found in it in London was selected for the 12 Months Film Festival (Cluj-Napoca, Romania). The film is eligible for ad hoc awards and audience awards. The festival runs monthly and you can see the film's profile on the festival website where you can vote for it too. In addition, the notification came with a double success as my London Short Film Festival selected documentary A Film By Abigail (that I assumed had run its course with its long festival run finishing in 2016) was also put into the official selection! Its profile for voting is here. You can follow me on Instagram @paulfilmmaker where I'm most active on social media and check out some of the other work and things I get up to such as recently working as a 1st Assistant Director on feature documentary Postcards From The 48% (Guerilla Film), 1st Assistant Director for a short film Gold Diggerz and as Assistant Director / Camera on a commercial for Joey Wears. I'll be looking to write a blog post about these projects soon, as well as assisting on a music video for London Grammar. Thanks for reading! Lost In The Nameless City screens in Berlin at the LemoArt Gallery as part of their CANCAN Film Competition starting April 2017 into May with the potential of winning a Video Art Award. The film, which is comprised of 32mm colour photography and black and white video, was originally commissioned by London music and arts event Filthy Lucre. The film touts an original minimalist score from David Hëvvitt of AFX Film Scores and is currently being considered by festivals and open calls worldwide, so (all being well) watch this space for more announcements to come. This particular piece of work has taken some time to being to be in its finished form and eligible to be screened - so it is with great satisfaction and pride that it finally begins to be shown and in a city know for cinema such as Berlin.

In January I worked as a 3rd Assistant Director for The Outfit on a series of commercials for Estée Lauder for their new "Confidence Uncovered" campaign. These were produced by Enfys Dickinson and directed by Rod Main. It was a busy and challenging shoot with a lot of locations across London including Notting Hill and Wimbledon Common. We shot daily profiles of three strong female personalities looking at their views of life and work. Above is the first video for host of the The High Low podcast and freelance writer Pandora Sykes. Below are the next two for the incredibly talented Sony signed musician Izzy Bizu and endurance athlete Sophie Radcliffe. Art Video International Film Festival of Cannes Invites The Body Canvas Into Its Film Catalogue23/2/2017 The Body Canvas has been invited into the catalogue of the Art Video International Film Festival of Cannes. This puts the dance film amongst other works that may be marketed and potentially acquired for screening and exhibition in anything from galleries to corporate settings with respective filmmakers' approval. The festival is trialling the method of having a market for their curated art films and it'll be interesting to see what might come of it for myself and co-director Julie Schmidt Andreasen. The "AVIFF-Art Film Festival" Cannes has since become one of the preferred places of promoting contemporary art in the field of Artists' films associated with an emerging art market." The Body Canvas is a short dance film dipping its toe into documentary that was shot in black and white observing conversations between dance, drawing, painting and filmmaking. It was broadcast worldwide by Berlin arts channel ikono TV, screened for Young Choreographers 2015 at Huset-KBH in Copenhagen and had its premiere in London at the Zealous X exhibition (Oxo Tower Wharf).

On top of that the scoring of Lost In The Nameless City, my documentary observing urban space in London which has hung in limbo for some time since its initial video screening at Filthy Lucre (who also commissioned it) has finally been completed. I am returning to Denmark this Thursday the 14th of July to shoot Human Proportions at Skagens Museum in the far North of the country. It is a project supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, Danish Actors Association Production Means and Dansekapellet. It is produced / co-choreographed by my long time collaborator Julie Schmidt Andreasen who performs with co-choreographer Karl Fagerlund Brekke. The duet will relate to Danish artist J. F. Willumsen's paintings and drawings I bølgen blå (In the Blue Wave). The film will be shot over two days and accompanied by music from Andrew Power on the cello. Read more about the event here. Our last pieces of work made in Denmark included Branches & Bones which was a dance / documentary film of a workshop interacting with nature at Vallø Castle and Transverse shot on a Copenhagen beach. The one minute cut of Transverse was entered into the 60 Seconds Dance Competition and can be viewed below: There's a very exciting announcement coming for mine and Julie's first piece of work The Body Canvas which I'll write about once I have returned. Watch this space... Sincerely thanks for reading.
