An ice cream man attempts to make it through the winter and a documentary crew is there to watch. Along the journey of illness, an estranged Father and corporate battles; Neville descends deeper into an obsessive sugar-coated world of his own making. He may never be the same come the Summer... if he gets there.
Made for around £400, with emphasis on performance and creativity in the acting above all else, The Ice Cream Men is a pure experiment in the mockumentary genre. It is a BA degree graduation piece from The Northern Film School. The film had a detailed narrative structure but strictly used improvisation for scenes, with no aim defined for content. Walking the line between tragedy and comedy, reality and fiction, it is still a documentary - just that the subject happens to be fictional.
