A  FILM  BY  ABIGAIL
IN  OFFICIAL  SELECTION  FOR
11th  LONDON  SHORT  FILM  FESTIVAL

After a year of gradual exposure and festivals for my short documentary A FILM BY ABIGAIL, it has now been selected for a high profile event and is a part of the official selection for the 11th LONDON SHORT FILM FESTIVAL taking place in January 2014! The festival had over 1200 British films entered into it and 300 were chosen for screenings. Check out some of the things said about the festival below:
Picture
“A London bastion of cutting-edge short films and multimedia”
- The Times
"A festival not afraid to take creative risks and nurture new talent, something rarely seen in this age of austerity and conformity."
- i-D Magazine
“The Best Short Film Festival in the World”
-Guardian Guide
The London Short Film Festival is a "BAFTA-recognised festival", meaning it is on a list of the most professionally important and accredited film festivals collated worldwide. The list contains renowned cinematic competitions such as Cannes, Sundance, Venice and Toronto. Being a part of a festival on the list opens up possibilities for potential funding/grants and support for the film from the British Council, as well as your progression as a filmmaker. In no small measure, this is what I've been trying to achieve since finishing my MA in 2012 and I'm very happy (and also relieved) to reach it! One step further...
"The London Short Film Festival, now in its 11th year, is recognised as the premiere UK showcase for cutting-edge UK independent film... Renowned for daring cross-arts programming, we showcase the very best of the country’s raw talent... a Mecca for the UK’s young creative talent and a significant date in the UK film calender."
- via www.shortfilms.org.uk (LSFF website)
A FILM BY ABIGAIL is currently screening in France (25th-30th of November) at the This Is England - English Short Film Festival of Rouen where it is nominated for the RNC Special Award. WORLD PREMIERE of 'THE BODY CANVAS' on Southbank in 'ZEALOUS X'!

20/11/2013

Coming a little after the official announcement by ZEALOUS, I am announcing on here (after an unintended delay!) that my co-directed film with Julie Schmidt Andreaen will have it's World Premiere at the sought-after 'Zealous X' exhibition!

THE BODY CANVAS will screen with 19 other films selected by independent judges as part of a 100 strong exhibit of artworks. There will be 20 works of music, performance, art and photography in the multi-storey Bargehouse nestled between the National Museum, Tate Modern and the BFI in the Southbank area of London. It will be open to the public from the 29th of November to December 1st, with a VIP opening for the artists, organisers and guests on the 28th of November in only 8 days time.

THE BODY CANVAS is an unfunded, truly independent film, that grew out of Julie Schmidt Andreasen's PAINTFORMANCE installation, laboratories and project at the London Contemporary Dance School. For the finished piece, we were very blessed to have music from two very talented composers. Ehud Freedman is an award-winning composer honoured with the 2nd Prize at the Berlinale Score Competition (Berlin International Film Festival) and Young Composer Award (Beijing Modern Music Awards). Also, Chris Lewis, who has been making waves with his genre bending ensemble //BACKSTEP// gave us his score for 'Paintformance' to use too.

As a film that I also edited and shot, it was a hard task but labour of love for me to complete it throughout the year and research where it could be screened. I'd only finished cutting the film for about a week when we submitted to 'Zealous X' and with their incredibly fast turnaround for choosing work, we were greeted with the crazy notion that our year long project would premiere in the heart of London. We had hardly any time to even contemplate the possibility of it!

'Zealous X' has been a much talked about event and company, featured within B2B MARKETING, FORBES, VENTURE MAGAZINE and METRO. The fact we're now a part of it is astounding and exciting for us! Something we're very grateful for too.
[the website is] "...a beautiful, engaging platform that encourages customization and exploration in an intuitive panorama-block style navigation... Zealous' current user base is global stretching from Los Angeles to South Korea and includes the creative works - photography, art, film, music, performance, architecture with users just as diverse in their make up - university students and veteran professionals including artist, Stephen Hall, who sold a painting to Andy Warhol...

Zealous provides a haven for those that create and a gathering point for those of us who want to experience the beauty of art in all it's many forms."

A short excerpt of the film can be viewed below as a taster of the final product. This one minute preview was created for TOOTHACHE DUETS and selected to screen for their Celebration Event at PERFORMANCE SPACE.
