![]() On the 20th of April, Saturday evening in front of a few million viewers (had to say it!), footage from my VIBETOWN Promo aired on BBC 1 as a prelude to the audition of the talented Laura Oakes! I never watched the first series of 'The Voice', but watching week-after-week to see my work accompany singer & friend Laura Oakes - I've come to quite enjoy it! Superior to it's glossy 'X Factor' cousin, it actually values and gives credence to the technical or raw abilities of it's competitors, especially with the method of "blind auditions". It's a clever format that delivers entertainment as well as a proper vocal competition. I just might keep watching and of course I'll be supporting Laura too. With the necessary shroud of secrecy around who is performing on the show and the fluctuation of priority within the programme's duration; I couldn't announce the crazy news that I was approached by Wall to Wall Productions months ago for the licensing of the video clips - as I wasn't 100% sure it'd be included. Therefore I was very happy, actually oddly starstruck too, to see the spangly outfits and bright lights of VIBETOWN strut their stuff on prime time TV. It's been a momentary bit of luck from working with someone like Laura, who has an impressive musical career ahead of them... perhaps we'll work together again in the near future, but I feel right now she has bigger fish to fry! So, CONGRATULATIONS to Laura for making it through to Danny's team. I know for a fact she has a hell of a lot more to show of her voice and I have faith she'll go far - good luck Laura! And if anyone else needs more convincing, watch Laura belt out Bon Jovi for VIBETOWN! Follow me on TWITTER @paul00vernon Follow Laura on TWITTER @lauraoakesmusic

MARS-II in Official Selection for Snake Alley Festival of Film !![]() Big news! I'm pleased to (finally) announce that MARS-II, the graduation film I directed, has landed at another American festival! Following on from Boston in February, it has become a part of the Official Selection at the Snake Alley Festival of Film! The short film is within a competitive 'SCI-FI' category and has encouragingly gone through a few rounds of short-listing to reach the fest. Sadly there aren't currently many more specific details to report on, but you can read about the Iowa festival as a whole HERE. You can also head over to their OFFICIAL PAGE on Facebook to support the festival and keep up to date with it's news. Plus, if you haven't already, please check out the MARS-II Facebook page to support the film and maybe give us a 'LIKE'! More details will be released soon when I have them... Twitter @paul00vernon A Film By Abigail & DV45 to Screen At Arts Festival with 'Q&A'![]() Coming off the heels of A FILM BY ABIGAIL being shown in New York City, I'm pleased to announce that the film is also now slated to be playing a lot closer to home, where I currently live in Royston (Hertfordshire) at the Royston Arts Festival 2013. The film will be followed by a 'Q&A' and ending with the premiere of my experimental film DV45. I'm very pleased that the festival wants to include DV45, as it's a film that's been hard to place; discovering platforms which are appropriate or risk-worthy has been difficult. It's request to be included in the proceedings has felt like an achievement in itself, not to mention the 20-30 minute slot that my time at the festival is currently scheduled for. The theme of the 2013 festival is "small world" and I believe that these films lend themselves to a program that is reflecting that. The two films are very different, but I've realised that they perhaps have a strong connection? I produced both of them quite close together, in an MA module that was encouraging experimentation and they each take place in only one location; at my childhood home in Leicestershire and the other at my then current home in Leeds. Was I studying my very own "small world" through the films? If so, they are an absolute microcosm of the actual world - hardly even a grain of sand in the desert perhaps. Even so, I think I've discovered a little more about what I made with these notions. Follow me on Twitter @paul00vernon Follow the Royston Arts Festival @RoyArtsFest UPDATE: The time for the screening is 3:55pm at Greneway School and it's free to enter. I'll also be making a video of highlights for the festival and judging the music entries to accompany it. CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE HERE For an insightful read, check out the Royston Arts Festival's HISTORY. It has ran since 1982 with a nine year hiatus returning in 2007. The festival has hosted a Henry Moore exhibition, invited the dreaded Daleks in 2012, as well as notable novelists, journalists, musicians, illustrators and composers for workshops and events.
