On the 20th of April, Saturday evening in front of a few million viewers (had to say it!), footage from my VIBETOWN Promo aired on BBC 1 as a prelude to the audition of the talented Laura Oakes!
I never watched the first series of 'The Voice', but watching week-after-week to see my work accompany singer & friend Laura Oakes - I've come to quite enjoy it! Superior to it's glossy 'X Factor' cousin, it actually values and gives credence to the technical or raw abilities of it's competitors, especially with the method of "blind auditions". It's a clever format that delivers entertainment as well as a proper vocal competition. I just might keep watching and of course I'll be supporting Laura too.
With the necessary shroud of secrecy around who is performing on the show and the fluctuation of priority within the programme's duration; I couldn't announce the crazy news that I was approached by Wall to Wall Productions months ago for the licensing of the video clips - as I wasn't 100% sure it'd be included. Therefore I was very happy, actually oddly starstruck too, to see the spangly outfits and bright lights of VIBETOWN strut their stuff on prime time TV. It's been a momentary bit of luck from working with someone like Laura, who has an impressive musical career ahead of them... perhaps we'll work together again in the near future, but I feel right now she has bigger fish to fry!
So, CONGRATULATIONS to Laura for making it through to Danny's team. I know for a fact she has a hell of a lot more to show of her voice and I have faith she'll go far - good luck Laura! And if anyone else needs more convincing, watch Laura belt out Bon Jovi for VIBETOWN!
