A  Film  By  Abigail  &  DV45  to  Screen  At  Arts  Festival  with  'Q&A'

PictureA Film By Abigail film still
Coming off the heels of A FILM BY ABIGAIL being shown in New York City, I'm pleased to announce that the film is also now slated to be playing a lot closer to home, where I currently live in Royston (Hertfordshire) at the Royston Arts Festival 2013. The film will be followed by a 'Q&A' and ending with the premiere of my experimental film DV45. I'm very pleased that the festival wants to include DV45, as it's a film that's been hard to place; discovering platforms which are appropriate or risk-worthy has been difficult. It's request to be included in the proceedings has felt like an achievement in itself, not to mention the 20-30 minute slot that my time at the festival is currently scheduled for.

The theme of the 2013 festival is "small world" and I believe that these films lend themselves to a program that is reflecting that. The two films are very different, but I've realised that they perhaps have a strong connection? I produced both of them quite close together, in an MA module that was encouraging experimentation and they each take place in only one location; at my childhood home in Leicestershire and the other at my then current home in Leeds. Was I studying my very own "small world" through the films? If so, they are an absolute microcosm of the actual world - hardly even a grain of sand in the desert perhaps. Even so,
I think I've discovered a little more about what I made with these notions.

UPDATE:
The time for the screening is 3:55pm at Greneway School and it's free to enter. I'll also be making a video of highlights for the festival and judging the music entries to accompany it.

For an insightful read, check out the Royston Arts Festival's HISTORY. It has ran since 1982 with a nine year hiatus returning in 2007. The festival has hosted a Henry Moore exhibition, invited the dreaded Daleks in 2012, as well as notable novelists, journalists, musicians, illustrators and composers for workshops and events.

MARS-II Article & Interview
The 38th Boston Science FIction Festival is OVER.

With the festival battling restrictions caused by the weather storm in Boston, such as road and parking bans, the short films of the festival inevitably migrated to online viewing/voting rather than theatrical. A small material shame but necessary in the situation, which was handled so well by the organisers.

The annual staple of the event, the 24 hour film marathon the 'THON went ahead seemingly as planned with science fiction fans packing into the Somerville Theatre for a stream of classic and cults films.

The votes are currently being counted for the short films and put towards the judge's decisions - who'll hand out awards accordingly very soon. I thought the issues with weather were handled really efficiently and I'm proud that MARS-II was a part of the event. Watch This Space for more festival announcements soon!

Dance    On    The    Horizon

I'm very pleased to release some images to preview my upcoming co-directed short dance film. It has been made with talented performers from the London School of Contemporary Dance, filmed over the past few months and is a piece looking at the relationship between dancers and painters, painting and dance.

After months of explorative workshops that are leading to a large multi-format installation; the film will show scenes devised by Julie Schmidt, the project creator. It has been a challenging and deeply interesting piece of work, evolving constantly, and I can't wait to show the results. We're aiming for it to find a platform at art venues / events looking for fresh work and I am excited at it's prospects. All artists involved, moving and working in front of the camera have been outstanding.

'DV45', an experimental film blurring documentary and fiction filmmaking. Shot within a domestic setting with a very basic but expressive DV camera. To know more about the film or others, please go to the SHORT FILM section.
