A Film By Abigail In
Official Selection At 4th DocFilm
& Runner-Up At RATMA Festival!

Firstly, I hope everyone reading this had a great bank holiday! I was travelled up North to Keighley representing A FILM BY ABIGAIL at the RATMA International Film Festival. Against some varied & impressive opposition, the film narrowly missed out on winning the Documentary Award to a very good doc about the sport of BMX (USA). As one of only two nominations from the category, A FILM BY ABIGAIL became the official "Runner-Up" in 2nd place.

Now for bigger news...

The film has been accepted into another festival, gaining the accolade of Official Selection at one of the major documentary events of the UK: DOCFILM FESTIVAL! This marks the first festival/event operating solely for the exposure of documentary the film has been selected for. It's going to be a within a rich program of documentary works being screened at venues across Leicester city centre between the 8th & 10th of November (2013). An important function of the 4th edition of the film festival is to instil awareness & promote worthwhile community causes & issues to the wider public. The "Festival Director" is John Coster of CITIZEN'S
EYE, a website that reports "by the people" on important stories & events for the Leicester community.

ALSO A FEW NIGHTS AGO there was a double screening of MARS-II & A FILM BY ABIGAIL [Dir. by Paul Vernon] at EAT MY SHORT SHORTS III in High Wycombe. If you couldn't attend, at least check out their truly brilliant poster below & I hope you had a great weekend!

Sorry... ONE final thing! MARS-II is in competition at SNAKE ALLEY FESTIVAL OF FILM (USA) in a week!!! LIKE the fest on Facebook for updates.

RATMA Film Festival

I'm heading up North tomorrow to Keighley for the weekend festivities of the RATMA International Film Festival in support of my documentary A FILM BY ABIGAIL. It's in the Official Selection, screening & competing within the Documentary Category. All film genres/categories of Animation, Comedy, Drama etc. can be seen online HERE.

The core of the event is on the Saturday where there will be films shown to/voted on by the audiences, live music & other film related stuff. Then on the Sunday, there is a red carpet event being dubbed the "Gala Awards Evening" at the Keighley Picture House. The films that recieved the most votes from the day before will win their categories & there will be an overall winner of the RATMA Film Festival announced there too. RATMA's goal is to champion filmmakers at the start of their career & creative path; low budgets with big ideas. I'm very excited to attend, as despite A FILM BY ABIGAIL's continued run of screening/festival success, I've yet to make it to almost any of the events. So... scarily for me... being at a festival as a filmmaker in competition... is actually a first this weekend.

A FILM BY ABIGAIL at Manchester Short Film Showcase!

Wow! It seems to be a regular occurrence now to have good news to tell about my documentary A FILM BY ABIGAIL. It's really picking up momentum for screenings & festivals - I had all the faith in the world, but it's now exceeded my expectations! I'm so pleased that it is not only being seen by many audiences but it is also being shown internationally in places such as Estonia, New York City & France. The latest screening is not a competition or festival but is a "Short Film Showcase" event in Manchester THIS Friday (May 17th, 2013) run by ELYSION PRODUCTIONS aptly named ELYSION SHORTS.

The official word from the ELYSION site is:
"An evening of short films from some of the up and coming talent in the film indsutry. This is set to become a regular evening featuring both new and professional films."

This look like it's going to be a great event & I'd urge anyone in the city or near Manchester to check it out, perhaps you could be the film's ambassador & I'll love you forever? The address for the event is as follows:

A FILM BY ABIGAIL has been submitted to OPEN CITY DOCS too, which tonight at 7pm release their Official Selection for all categories live on their website. More good news...?

A Film By Abigail Nominated For Award
at the This is England Film Festival
in Rouen, France

A FILM BY ABIGAIL has been selected to compete at the THIS IS ENGLAND - ENGLISH SHORT FILM FESTIVAL OF ROUEN in late November! The festival's aim is to show emerging & current filmmakers work from England to the French cinema audience of Rouen. The film will be in the running for the RNC Award in the Documentary class & €500 prize money. The preliminarily plans are for it to be screened at the impressive Omnia-République (see image below) where all the fest takes place including the closing ceremony. Also, similar to the screenings in New York, local school children will be shown the film at a later date separately too.

With a festival finally in realistic travelling distance & cost, I hope to travel to the French event! It's been quite frustrating to not be able to attend where my films are being shown, so this will be satisfying, perhaps slightly daunting, but ultimately exciting. It'll be especially pleasing to go, as my friend Lawrence Mason @danger_mason will be there too as the producer of 'Echo', vying for the RNC Award as well!
