Interview  in  'VideoFocus'  Magazine
Biennial  Edition  2015

Dear Paul and Julie,

We are glad to inform you that The Body Canvas has been selected for the Biennial Edition of VIDEOFOCUS, Stigmart10 Videobiennale, our special issue featuring videoartists and filmmakers. We have been really impressed and we appreciate your filmmaking style oscillating between documentary and experimental film as well as your refined black and white cinematography, so we'll be pleased to submit you a personal interview about your cinema and your current projects, like A Film By Abigail, which will be published in the next issue of our net review.

- E-mail Notification
...And there it was in my inbox! I was so grateful of the kind words and after much thought about my answers, here is the interview finally online! I was selected as one of fifteen filmmakers/artists out of a stated 4000 submissions(!) - so I'm pretty chuffed! The primary piece of work I submitted was The Body Canvas, so my co-director and frequent collaborator Julie Schmidt Andreasen was also interviewed. Topics included my recent dance film shot in Denmark Branches & Bones and London Short Film Festival selected short documentary A Film By Abigail. The magazine gets an average of 200,000 "visualisations" per issue and is put together by a collective stretched over France, Italy and Germany.

I'm on pages 91-101! Read it in the viewer above toggling it full screen or on Issuu .

The Body Canvas was part of the Greensboro Dance Film Festival a few days ago and premiered at the Zealous X art exhibition (Southbank, London); it will also screen later in the year with a date TBA for Art Experimenta at the Trispace Gallery (London). I assumed New Orleans International Children's Film Festival early March would be the final screening for A Film By Abigail but it has been "discovered and selected" by the .Mov Short Film Festival (Cologne, Germany) found via the 25th Internationales FilmFest Emden-Norderney (aka the German festival it was an opening film for last summer). Look out for more details and a fuller announcement will follow when I have them!

Keep in touch and up-to-date by following me on Twitter or with my new official Facebook page. Thanks for reading!

Official Selection
Greensboro  Dance  Film  Festival

The 2nd Annual Greensboro Dance Film Festival will commence on the 22nd of March this Sunday and the The Body Canvas will be in the Official Selection.
The festival, the first of its kind to reside in Greensboro, is in its second year and features dance films representing 9 countries in both student and professional categories. The event will also feature a moderated panel of professional artists and an array of experimental film formats all presented against the backdrop of beautiful Weatherspoon Art Museum...

Sugarfoote Productions is a multipurpose arts organisation created to help local audiences experience the richness of African and Diasporan cultural traditions...

Because the event has very limited space in their program, with multiple pieces of great film work being submitted, what will be screened will be a short Trailer Excerpt of the film. Despite the full film not being shown, we're delighted that the festival organisers insisted on showing something of The Body Canvas to their audience and wider community. The festival will take place at the big and bustling Weatherspoon Art Museum (Greensboro, North Carolina, USA) and is presented by Sugarfoote Productions and University of North Carolina at Greensboro Dance Department. Freshly uploaded to Vimeo, you can check out below what'll be shown at the festival Sunday.
And... look out for my 10-page magazine feature in STIGMART VIDEO FOCUS [BIENNIAL EDITION] with a lengthy interview covering A Film By Abigail, The Body Canvas and other film topics. I'll be sharing it VERY soon in another new blog (ideally tomorrow) on my Twitter and my official Facebook page - thanks for reading!

"Now in its seventh year, the New Orleans International Children's Film Festival is designed to enrich local audiences—of all ages... and spotlight some of the best in youth-appropriate contemporary cinema. The Children's Film Festival will include film screenings in the third floor auditorium of the library’s Main Branch, film-related workshops... All screenings are FREE and open to the public."

On March 6th and 7th the New Orleans Film Society will host the 7th New Orleans International Children's Film Festival at the New Orleans Public Library. My short documentary A Film By Abigail will screen in the morning of the 7th as the Closing Film of the 'Seven-Up Cinema #2' programme, consisting of two American and also Hungarian and Canadian films. Sifting through the different blocks of fiction, documentary and animation on the site I saw that I'm in truly varied company with the "international" flavour of the event not a gimmick. By my count there's work from Denmark, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Italy, Taiwan, New Zealand, Russia, Israel, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands! It's a real honour and pretty cool that A Film By Abigail is the sole film representing the UK too!

It's crazy to think of all the countries, events and institutions A Film By Abigail has screened at these past three years. With the most recent in London at the Trispace Gallery. New Orleans is currently the last theatrical showing it has. The journey for the film has been continuing steadily since the 2012 world premiere as the opening film of a "short film showcase" at BAFTA London. The first taste of a festival was at the Sleepwalkers Student & Short Film Festival (Tallinn, Estonia) in which it was one of fourteen films touted as the best work from film schools around the world. It has been an opening film three times, award nominated in France, screened throughout 2013 in a New York City school for their damn art curriculum (!) and shown at prestigious venues (I'd of never dreamt of!) such as San Diego Comic-Con 2014, ICA (for London Short Film Festival 2014) and the LA County Museum of Art (Los Angeles). Visit the film's page for a full rundown of achievements and details.

IF... this is the final post I'll make regarding A Film By Abigail, let me sincerely say thanks to any and ALL support recieved towards the work and my filmmaking in general. Liking, re-tweeting, viewing, attending etc. all helps and is highly appreciated.

I'd love it and hugely appreciate you keeping up-to-date with me by hitting "like" on my brand new FACEBOOK PAGE and you follow me on Twitter @PaulEVernon too. Thanks for reading!
