How can artists can be integrated within a performance despite the medium in which they are working? A painter, drawer, filmmaker and dancers move through a series of structured meetings throughout London, developing communication and expression. This film is a culmination of months of laboratories mixing dance on screen with documentary, featuring performers from the London Contemporary Dance School and fine artists. It is co-directed and created by Paul Vernon & Julie Schmidt Andreasen. In 2015 it screened in Copenhagen and was broadcast globally on ikonoTV. Its world premiere was at the Zealous X exhibition (Oxo Tower Wharf, Southbank, London) which was a multi-disciplinary showcase of selected works including film, photography, performance, sculpture and 2D imagery.

The Body Canvas explores how artists can be integrated within performance despite the medium in which they are working. Mine and Julie's directorial collaboration on The Body Canvas started when I replied to her advert on IdeasTap, in which Julie was asking for a documentary filmmaker to submit work to her for this project and bring out of it a film. After being selected as the collaborator, the film emphasis hovered between documentary and fiction following laboratories I attended and discussions we had. The final product is difficult to pigeon-hole as a dance film or piece of fiction, an experimental film or a documentary. It has traits of all these genres and the methods used while filming. The majority was shot in only one take.
